Successful Vocal Teaching Lineage
Laurece studied singing for 12 years with Hester Young in Manhattan and has been teaching voice for 24 years. Laurece is from the successful voice teaching lineage of Dr. Edward Dwyer who trained professional Broadway and Metropolitan Opera singers, Hester Young and Katie Agresta, the teacher of numerous rock and R&B stars. This Bel Canto method has been used by teachers of this lineage with (the short list:) Cyndi Lauper, Annie Lennox, Lenny Kravitz, Bon Jovi, Cory Glover, Savage Garden, Avril Lavigne, Roger Daltry, Peter Frampton, Donald Fagan, Steven Tyler, Dave Matthews, Lisa Bonet and Queen Latifah.
Laurece taught professional singers for ten years in Manhattan, six years in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts, and happily relocated her studio to Durham July 2009.
As a speaking coach Laurece she has worked with actors, public speakers, lawyers, business persons, poets, teachers, and international professionals. For the past three year she has delivered interactive workshops to young scientists at Duke University. Through the Durham Arts Council has taught Speak with Ease and Confidence to K-12 in the public schools. She offers communication and presentation training programs to lawyers, law students, government and academia. Laurece is partners with Sharon Hill for communciation based team building, conflict resolution and diversity training. She is also partners with speaker, author and Power Point expert Wendy Gates Corbett www.refresher-training.com delivering "The Art and Science of Presenting" to executives, business teams, speakers and entrepreneurs.
Personal Style, Recording and Performances
Laurece has thirty-nine years of experience as a professional, performing singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, band leader, & recording artist. Laurece's personal style is a blend of folk, jazz, blues and world beat with inspirational energy.
She recorded "Essence of Love" recorded with local jazz geniuses Kevin Van Sant (guitar,) Doug Largent (bass), and Beverly Botsford (percussion). Laurece has been in a number of bands as a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter and band leader. She writes songs on piano and bass, and performs with each. Doug Largent is her mentor for piano and bass. She is working with her husband Terry sitting in on guitar for her performances of her original music, as well as performing jazz standards with Aviva Enoch (piano) and Tom Henderson (alto and tenor saxophones and clarinet) and Andy Hunt (trumpet and flugelhorn.)
